Xbox 360, Ring of Death

Xbox 360. The Ring Of Death Do you own one? My home is seriously a gamer pad. Everyone in my home plays Xbox. We have been dedicated gamers since 2004, at the time we owned 5 original xboxs. When the 360 came out I was the first one in the family to get one. Now we have 3 of them in the house. I love gaming, there is nothing better then getting online and kicking some butt, the best part being when you play multiplayer online and they find out that you are a girl and you kicked their butt.

So as I mentioned I was the first one to have a 360 in the family, mine lasted a whole 7 days! Yes you read that right, 7 freaking days and it died. I had to send it in to be fixed. Have you ever looked at the percent rate for 360’s dying and need to be sent in for maintenance? I just looked it up and found out that there is a 30% chance that you are going to get a bad box. From what I understand Microsoft had to extend the warranty on them cause they were failing so fast. To me that is pretty poor, these game consoles are DAMM expensive. I paid well over 500 $ for mine when it first came out. I find it pretty disgusting that you pay that amount of money for something that has a 30% chance of dying on you!

Did all the hype and fails STOP us, NO! Since then I have bought 3 more. Now you want to know how many times I have had to send them in? Let me see, my box itself has gone in twice, and needs to be sent in again. The second box we bought which was in 2007 has been in for repair 2 times. We recently this year purchased a Red Box and so far so good! From what I have read they say that the newer ones have been re modified so that they don’t fail. The failure rates on these things are so bad that they even have a name for it, called The Ring Of Death.

Another thing that seriously pisses me off about these console and game systems the quality of the things you need to use the console to it’s full potential. The headsets to start, when you buy a console you receive one!  I cannot even begin to tell you how many headsets we have gone through in the last 3 years. To begin with they suck, you can barely hear on them. Then if you are like me, I always have to be muting my mic or else the people on the other end are going to hear my kids in the background. From that it seems to lose some kind of connection and then people online cannot hear you speak! Then you have the problem of plugging it in and unplugging it, this seems to also cause problems with the controller. The areas where you plug it in gets messed up and GUESS what you then need to buy a new controller. We will get to that in a minute. I don’t know about you but if you spend that kind of money on something, don’t you think it should be better quality

Now controllers, like I mentioned above then headsets tend to do something to them if you are one to be using the mic sometimes and not. Then if you play Halo, which seems to be the game in our home, you have to grouch a lot. Which means you need to push down on the thumb stick. This is I believe tends to run into problems. To me the controllers seem to give out after so much time. Again these things are expensive, 50$ a shot. That’s a lot of money considering we have 3 boxes, and you need at least 2 controllers for each box. I have been replacing my controllers every 2 to 4 months lately!

I’m starting to get really sick of dishing out money all the time to be able to continue being gamers. If someone asked me what console that they should buy I don’t think I would feel comfortable telling them to buy a XBOX 360. They just seem to be money eaters!

So my question to you all is this, do you own an Xbox 360?  Have you had any troubles with yours? Let me know, I would love to hear your thoughts on this!

We are big gamers in my household, and yes we have a xbox 360, here are the problems we have had; If you barely shake the controllor the battery pack gets knocked out of place and the controllor shuts off. Our power went out once during game time, when the power came back on..ring of death; but I had it on a surge protector, after resetting the surge protector the xbox did not show the ring of death and has worked fine.

We are huge gamers as well. And my husband had the choice xbox360 or the ps3. He read the reviews and after hearing about the ring of death he went with the ps3. My sister has the 360 she had it for almost 2 years and as soon as I told her about why we didn’t get one. Hers ended up getting it and she had to send it off. From my understanding it had to do with the heating time or the boards in the systems. It seems they should have fixed them all by now. My husband seen where people would place towels over the systems to heat them up so they worked properly. To me they was to much of a pain we might get a 360 later down the road. Right now we have a Wii, PS3, DS and all of Computers.

There is a problem with the heating system, When they first came out there was something to do with the laser or something and when the machine was getting hot the glue would melt therefore it would not read the games. We just got one of ours back last week and it already died again this weekend. I’m so sick of sending them back and forth you would think with everyone that has sent them in they would have foxed the problem by now! They also said that the elite systems wouldn’t do it, my daughter has the elite system and her went. We have the wii, 360, ps3 and the ds also! Plus the computers,I have really not be able to play on the 360 online for a while it was getting to much with all the kids and the bad mouths . SO I stopped playing ~!
